Softball leader knocked from the ranks of unbeatens

RMSA played a truncated schedule in week five due to the Memorial Day
holiday. The Monday Burt Smith League had the week off, while the Sunday
Community League made up games from the snowy May 9 weekend.

Thursday’s Jim Korpela League played a regular week five schedule and was
highlighted by Mac Contracting knocking off the previously undefeated Midnight
Mikey’s/Federated Insurance 12-7.

The win placed Mac squarely in the hunt in the Korpela League standings at
3-2. Todd Jackson homered in the game for Mike’s.

Palisades continued their romp through the Korpela League, trouncing Oriskany
Manufacturing 17-2 in the nightcap on field two. A seven-run sixth inning sealed
the game for Palisades, giving them the mercy rule victory.

With the win, Palisades remained one-half game ahead of Mattacola Law Firm
atop the standings. The two lone undefeated Korpela League teams won’t face each
other until week eight.

In other Korpela League action, the Firemen continued their winning ways,
running their record to 3-1 in a 13-5 win over The Mill.

Ed Marsh had a perfect night for the Firemen, going four for four at the
plate with a home run and three RBI. Paul Matwijec collected three hits in the
effort.

The Mill was paced by Steve "Scoop" Jones and Norm Baldomir, who were both a
perfect 3-for-3 at the dish. The loss dropped The Mill to a 2-3 record in league
play.

Sunday’s Community League’s spotlight showdown featured several familiar
names from the Korpela League as the B-52s and the Dreamers squared off in the
middle game on field one.

The Dreamers scored 14 runs in their two final at-bats but still came up
short as the B-52s came out on top 20-17 to earn their first win in the
Community League.

Marco Carletta hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning for the B-52s to
lead the bombers’ home-run barrage. Chris Carletta added a bomb of his own along
with a double and Mark Caswell hit one in the sixth inning in the win.

The Carlettas combined for seven RBI to pace the offense. Norm Baldomir had
another perfect game at the plate with four hits and two RBI.

Kevin Blanchard carried the hammer for the Dreamers on Sunday, finishing four
for four with a big three run home run in the sixth inning. Blanchard finished
with six RBI for the game.

Jeremy Eilers had a double among his three hits in the loss for the Dreamers,
who dropped to 0-4 in league play.

In other play, Western Legion, Don’s Auto and Advanced Auto/Tebb’s all
remained undefeated with convincing wins.
